That player finally has emerged -- free-agent shortstop David Eckstein. The Jays are on the verge of signing Eckstein, according to a major-league source. Terms of the contract were not immediately known.

Agreed. Considering the rumors that he was looking for a 4 year deal approaching $9MM per, this is quite a comedown.

Well this makes sense now... at first I was in the boat that thought Ricciardi was being an idiot... now it's obvious it was a bargain and cost effective buy.

I thought McDonald was supposed to be a really good defensive SS? And its not like Eckstein is a good hitter.

McDonald is a great SS, but Ecksteins 31 point advantage in OPS+ makes him an upgrade
