We were 39-39 in 2005 and made the playoffs...
This team has the talent to go something like 60-20 if they can get it all together. I don't think it would be that good, but still... they have the talent to go crazy if they can put it together.
1 gone.
But every single time you think they've put it together, they stumble. I thought they had put it together after the Texas sweep. Or the series win against Boston at the Stadium.

Nothing like a six pitch inning. Ugh. I need a nice tall glass of anti-freeze.

That's because you need to order the Extra Innings package and not the Sports Package that includes YES. All YES games are blackedout if you're out of the NY area and you must see them on the Extra Innings package only.

He's slow, but he's still a very good (and if he plays like 2006, an excellent) hitter. There were people arguing that he should have been the MVP last year. He finished 4th in the MVP voting. He hit 39 HRs in 2006 and had an OPS+ of 141. Whether you're fast or slow, (and he's certainly very, very slow) I think that's a very high quality baseball player.

Because he is no longer a quality baseball player. He can't run. The only reason he is useful is if he hits a HR. Literally, he hits balls into the gaps and singles. That's how slow he is.
This year he has been bad....but he had a .926 OPS last year. Thats pretty damn good.

ok. it's official. The Yankees are not coming back this year, IMO.
They are laying down for everyone.
I will still watch and see Jeter get hits and A-Rod hit #500. I'd like to see how Hughes will do in his rookie campaign.
It'll be neat to see Pettitte and Clemens pitch for the Yankees again.
But I've stopped watching for wins. I've adopted my 1980's Yankees attitude from here on out.

I love how you guys wanna blame Long, why is it his fault a bunch of overpaid superstars aren't performing? he can't have the At bats for them, I think they know how to take pitches, i'm sure hes telling them what they need to do, in the end this team full of 10 million dollar+ men should know how to hit.

Giambi.......who would pick up hie ridickulas contract? That's the problem. Who is movable? I guess the bullpen guys have some value because contenders are always looking for middle relief and a team will always think they can fix some other team's problem. Unless the yankees are willing to eat a lot of money and no trade contracts are waived, there's not many moves there.

My point is that the underachievers or high upside prospects that havent put it all together yet all seem to find the light switch against the Yanks.
It only seems that way. The % of guys you describe who succeed vs the Yanks is probably not much different than the % vs any other team.

You can root for players but with the understanding that the team as a whole will break your heart. They were always in the hunt but were never able to put it together until it was too late. The seasons usually ended in before school started in September..

I have never felt as bad about the team as I do tonight. I can honestly say NEVER. They need something to spark them or else Im afraid that theyre going to get in a slump that they never come out of.
Not that we were winning the game anyway, but these absolute bullpen meltdowns are happening pretty often. No team anywhere, even when it is hitting, can survive when its relief pitchers just walk 4 guys in a row for no reason and then start giving up hits. Desalvo, Proctor, and Villone in a span of 4 games. Craziness

Amazing that McGowan with his lofty 7.17 ERA, has completely shut down the Yanks.
Sometimes when a team isn't playing well, the manager need to stop the work, say : "It isn't my fault, i did everything i can and they didn't produce!" and quit for the good of the team and himself, but i think that only happen in a perfect world.

Is it really that surprising? Scoring two runs that would have made a game of it right after the four-run inning that put the game away ... that's pretty much to be expected with this team.
I don't think it's just plain bad luck that this team struggles when trailing in a game that's still close enough to win but seems to hit when there's no pressure and the game's out of reach.
