Their second headline from the top as of 9:35pm this evening:

I dont get why its mentioned that he is a Yankee fan in this story....it doesnt mean anything.

This is insane. His actions have nothing to do with him being a Yankee fan. They could have easily as written: "Diet Pepsi drinker trained terrorist turns informant"

Wow... because this has absolutely nothing to do with him being a terrorist... why on earth was that necessary to add?

I'd guess that its just a writer who happens to be a Red Sox fan rather than a company like CNN having a bias.

He's from Queens and couldn't stand the Mets.

I have to say that in a sense, I feel cheated by the "Yankee-fan" label. How come CNN never puts that title on our troops?

Come on, be fair.

This was one of the stranger article titles I have ever seen.

The slightly built Yankees fan from Queens

Other options include:

The slightly built American Idol fan...
The slightly built stamp collector...
The slightly built CNN viewer...

I'm sure it's already been done.

Is this a huge deal? Nah. But it certainly is unnecesary. Something tells me if they said this was a "Gay man trained terrorist" story the PC police would be flying.

Anti-Yankees bias? No, it's a Kate Smith bias. "Normal" people hate Kate Smith and her rendition of "God Bless America" and so does CNN. An you what? They're right. Were it not for Kate Smith, we wouldn't have to live with this kind of anti-Yankees bias. Were everyone in baseball to play Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" in the 7th, the world would be a better place. As pro-America songs go, it's more complicated, it's far more patriotic, and it better represents the American people.

The moral of this story is that CNN hates Kate Smith.

As a journalist my take on this is as follows:

Babar (Babar!!?!?! Seriously!??!) is an American who celebrated and cheered the attacks on 9/11. He then took it a step further and aided AQ with money, night vision goggles, etc. He then involved himself in the London bombings. The man is clearly the sort of human scum that enjoys the suffering of others and believes that he has some sort of divine right to carry out his unique brand of justice in the world.

What does that have to do with him being a Yankee fan? Nothing, in a vaccum. However, it does show that not everyone from NY was affeceted the same way, and that not every "terrorist" is of muslim descent. I don't think the writer was saying that Yankee fans are terrorists, instead it was more pointing out the oddity of a person born and raised in NY being capable of this.

It's much easier for us all to think of terrorists as middle eastern savages but it's certainly jarring to think that the guy sitting next to us in the bleachers might be involved in the coordination of a mass-murderous terrorist attack.

In other words, I don't think anyone is overreacting, I just don't really think the writer meant it in a way that slights yankee fans.
