For players on the DL who have since been activated...

Remember, you must activate a player within 7 days of coming off the real-life DL, or they will be released to the waiver wire.

Consider this thread your official 7-day warning this season...

How I figure out the date: Player is activated say, 4/13. (That is his first game back). I start counting on the 14th. 14-20th is 7 days. 21st he will be released if not in the active lineup.

Hey Eric - the only problem with this thread is it doesn't show up as "updated" (bold) when you update the first post.

Maybe you could also make a post in the thread that just says: Updated & the date or something?

Are you going to activate him (a potentially wasted spot on your roster), release him or reserve him (which comes with a future financial cost)?

What is the future financial cost of reserving him?

You either:

(A) Add $5 to their base salary and their contract stays the same,

OR

(B) Immediately sign them to a 2-year contract extention. (A $1 player would then be signed for 2008 and 2009 at $9 per year, for example). Keep in mind there is a penalty for releasing a player signed to a long-term contract, too.

However, if you do either of those things, you can release the player from your roster while they are ineligible. You then pick them back up when they return. If you don't add them to your ML roster within 7 days of their return to the majors, you lose their rights, and they become Free Agents.
