I'd agree with just about any other starter. With Pavano, you kind of need him to spend the next few days on an ultimate high. One that, with one swing of the bat and a 2-run HR, would be severely lessened.

He's at 7 innings, 2 runs. A great outing. If he gives up a few runs (and he was getting smoked last inning) a few things happen. First, you end up using the more premium bullpen arms in a game you had a big lead in. Second, you end up with a much less gaudy line. And....with a guy who hasn't had a nice pretty line in two years, it DOES mean something. It's nice to think that every player is only concerned with the team winning (and I believe most have that as their primary goal), but human nature is to want to have the flashy numbers.

It's the warmth of the Dome I tell you.
i would think torre just wants pavano to build his confidence. 7 great innings - don't let him give up any more ERs. he's being babied.
i guess, but i think he could've went into the 8th, if he gives up a hit take him out. if he gets through easy it's even more of a confidence boost and saves the bullpen.

Who pitches the ninth? If we're going by lowest number of innings pitched, then Farnsworth or Rivera should get the call.
I think it should be Farns.

i'd put bruney back in, and give him a couple of days off. he's one of our long men.

Arizona is kicking themselves now for cutting ties with Bruney.
Pavano was starting to lose control in the 7th. Balls were getting touched quite hard.
that's true, but wasn't it the middle of the order that did that? i just think sending him out the 8th woulda be alright and nothing really bad could've came from it....wahtever though, torre's pitching decisions always piss me off. great start for pavano though!
