You could send Rasner down after today and bring up someone from SWB to pitch. Anyone.

And Joe will get the blame for burning out the pen because the starters could'nt go 5 in April.
Sadly, that is so true.

Looks like the pool will continue another day. Igawa will throw too many pitches before then, so he wont go past 5 if he even gets to that.
"Which Yankees pitcher will be the first to go more than 5 innings this season?"
I say you leave Igawa out there and let him hit his 100 pitch count and save the pen for one day at least.

anyone thinking we are going to get to the playoffs with this starting rotation, defense and a bunch of inpatient hitters, think again
Inpatient hitters?

Seriously, if the Yankees scouted this guy, how the hell could they have figured he would do well in the big leagues? He has no dominant pitches, his control has been erratic in every single outing, and he has no velocity.
The Yanks figured he would be 5th starter who could win 10-12 games and nothing more.
Now, the question is whether he is a BAD 5th starter.
The only expectations I have of him is to win 10 games because I dont think he'll win more than that. He's not going 14-9 with a 4.23 ERA.
I still don't recall the part of the post where she said "Wow, Matsui is so awesome in left I can't believe he didn't make that play!" which lead to the "what player have you been watching?" snark.
I apologize to coyoteyank as well the rest of the board. I have never been a huge supporter in Matsui's defensive ability and I just let it out. I'm sorry.

But then why spend over $20 million just to negotiate with someone who will be no better than your fifth starter? They could have just signed someone like Trachsel or some other such scrub. Why spend over $40 million for someone who won't win more than 10-12 games?

A-Rod the only good thing about this game. it was a waste and always seemed to me george ordered it because he wanted his own Japense pitcher after the sox got theirs. It never seemed like a wise move or something cashman would do, especially knowing that karstens or rasner could provide the same or better as igawa.

Trachsel actually matches up well with the Yanks. I was amazed to find out that in Trachs' interleague starts vs. AL, he 9-7 with a 3.70 ERA.
But in the case of the Yanks, and this happened last year when he beat them last year with the Mets. The Yanks are conceding the first pitch to him. So what Steve is doing is just throwing a strike. From that point, if you can get a foul ball or a swing and miss in one of the next 2 pitches, then you have him in control and he can use that split and change for the K.
Abreu and Cano have fallen victim to that so far.
