View Full Version : Henson Quotes
Columbus Dispatch reported :
Notes: Third base prospect Drew Henson is scheduled to fly to Columbus this morning and could
be in the Clippers lineup tonight. The 21-year-old Henson hit .368 (7 for 19) with two runs and a
double in five games at double-A Norwich. Henson started slow in his first two games, going 1 for 7
with three strikeouts. "My timing wasn't there," Henson told the Norwich Bulletin of his early
struggles. Last year in Norwich, Henson hit .287 with seven home runs and 39 RBI in 59 games.
"I've already proven myself at double-A," he said. "I'm ready for the challenge of triple-A."
And a fat 0-4 for henson tonight.Welcome to AAA
:)

Dude, he was gonna be the #1 pick in the NFL draft. Besides, I'd look at it as more a "Bring it on!" attitude than a "I'm bored, what's next" one. He did pretty much mash AA pitching while he was there. :p

Duque, the one thing I've learned in my short time here is not to argue stats with you :D
However, I will officially be incredibly impressed if this kid gets to AAA ball and starts 'mashing' the pitching there.
I mean, think about it. He's never played a full season of baseball at any level since little league. He's spent almost no time whatsoever (relatively) in A or AA.
If he goes to AAA, mashes up some pitching there and comes up to the bigs next year, I will be sincerely and really impressed, both with him and the Yankee Brass for recognizing and securing that kind of talent.
Hey - more power to him!!:p

No, I don't expect him to get off to a hot start at Columbus either. In fact, the GM said the same thing. But he's obviously got incredible athletic ability - think of it, he's never really had a full season of baseball instruction, he sits out for six weeks with a broken hand, then comes back, and within 2 weeks, is hitting .368. There's not really a stat to quantify him, because his playing time has been sparse and scattered, but I don't think the Yanks would have locked up $17 million in him if they didn't see some great potential.
Course, as I was reminded in an earlier post, there was another erstwhile football player turned baseball player who came out of the gates roaring, and has since been released by his team: Deion (aka "Pine Time") Sanders. :P
Henson better be cocky about baseball after giving up the big NFL contract and future. I've seen this guy in batting practice in spring training last year. He has tremerndous power. He also is a lithe athlete, moving incredibly well for his size, as he showed last year on the gridiron. I am as excited about him as I him about Johnson, though I don't think he will be ready as soon.

Well, unfortunately we were right. Through 3 games he's 1-10, with 1 BB and 5Ks.
Small sample, of course, but it looks like he's at least feeling a bit more 'challenged' ;)

Sometimes a cockyness is good. I sure hope he can back it up though.
He was probably trying too hard. He does have a homerun already.
